A new fitness function in binary particle swarm optimization for efficient design of frequency selective surfaces

Abstract

Several techniques have been used for FSS design for a long time, and Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO) is one of them as a proper and easily applicable technique to determine the periodic structure pattern of FSS. However, with fitness function used previously, it needs a lot of iterations to meet various requirement of FSS such as bandwidth or roll-off characteristics in BPSO. In this work, we achieved faster convergence of BPSO algorithm by using the improved transfer function in designing FSS. Representative results comparing the Fitness functions and values are included and discussed.
