Abstract
We study in detail semi-inclusive charmless B → πX decays such as B̄0 → π±(0))X, B0 → π±(0)X and B± → π±(0)X, where X does not contain a charm (anti)quark. We find that the process B̄0 → π-X (B0 → π+X) can be particularly useful for the determination of the CKM matrix element |Vub|. We calculate and present the branching ratio (BR) of B̄0 → π-X as a function of |Vub|, with an estimate of possible uncertainties. It is expected that the BR is of the order of 10-4. Our estimation indicates that one can phenomenologically determine |Vub| with a reasonable accuracy by measuring the BR of B̄0 → π-X (B0 → π+X.
