Abstract
From the vendlerian point of view, the Korean MANEY-adverbial is considered to reveal the telicity of the sentences that it modifies. This description, however, seems inadequate because the MANEY-adverbial modifies not only the accomplishment sentences but also the achievement and the activity sentences. In this paper, I examine the semantic roles played by this time adverbial and propose the notions of "relational role" and "telic role" to explain the way this adverbial functions. I formalize them in the typed functional language proposed by F. Renaud (1996).
