Analysis and measurement of the OH absorption induced loss in a tapered single mode optical fiber

Abstract

Measurement of the OH absorption induced loss in a tapered single mode optical fiber was discussed. The fiber was heated by a microtorch and was longitudinally elongated by a motorized translation system. Results showed that optical loss over 1.6 dB near 1.39 μm in a fiber tapering process was observed.
