Abstract
Most power systems at islands in South Korea are stand-alone microgrids, which are disconnected from main grid, and generally have small power demand. Although the diesel generator has many advantages as main power sources for small power system, it has problems of very high operational and maintenance cost. To solve these problems, the South Korean government has replaced conventional diesel generators with renewable energies based on converter-based generators. In this study, the power system in Dukjuk Island in South Korea is modeled in detail based on practical data. Then, the voltage and frequency responses of the stand-alone microgrid are analysed corresponding to the penetration ratio of total diesel generation.
