Abstract

This research is to analyze how the consumption trends of broadcasting contents has changed under ICT convergence in which television and Internet has brought advancement in media technology and various media platforms came to be available for the consumers. Another purpose is to find an appropriate theoretical frameworks for the newly emerging consumption trends of broadcasting contents. The analysis shows that the consumption of broadcasting contents under ICT convergence needs to be considered not only with the viewing behavior itself but also with the search, sharing, and production of information as well. Furthermore, it is demonstrated suitable to combine 'uses and gratifications theory' and 'consumer decision making model' together as a theoretical framework when studying these expanded concept of consumption. This research also allows to overcome the limitation of existing broadcast studies based on linear viewing and to redefine the meaning of broadcasting consumption process under ICT convergence.
