Birefringent PCF with hollow ring defects

Abstract

We propose a new birefringent index guiding PCF with hollow germanosilicate doped ring defects. Flexible modal birefringence control was achieved by not only the conventional hole-to-pitch ratio, but also thickness and relative index difference of the hollow ring defects to endow capabilities in PCF design.
