Abstract

We proposed a defocus based signal reception method to overcome the strictly limited communication distance in camera communication. Since the data rate of the rolling shutter based oversampling method depends on the size of the LED image, the data rate becomes inversely proportional to communication distance. By using defocus based signal reception, we guarantee the size of the LED image and effectively mitigate the degradation of data rate for the distance. We experimentally verified the proposed OCC scheme with a tolerance to the performance degradation in long distance reception.
