Abstract

This paper presents an unprecedented study of coverage enhancement using transparent intelligent surfaces (TIS) which can selectively bolster transmission, reflection for targeted angle-of-Arrivals (AoA) and angle-of-departures (DoA) for sub-6 GHz and mmWave 5G spectrum. A series of TIS prototypes featuring more than 80% optical transparencies which operate at 3.5 GHz and 28 GHz spectrum will be deployed under real-life channel conditions. A direct comparison between existing solutions and the TIS will be demonstrated to quantitatively ascertain the effectiveness of the proposed TIS.
