In optimal design problems of multiple systems, a multidisciplinary design optimization method is required owing to the coupling of each field. The design optimization of a vacuum cleaner handle associated must be considered in terms of both injection molding and structural analysis simultaneously. Since the injection pressure for productivity and the maximum stress for durability must be designed simultaneously, a technique for coordinating the linked variables is required. In this study, the design of a vacuum cleaner handle considering both injection molding analysis and structural analysis is optimized using collaborative optimization, and its efficiency is compared with that of the conventional design optimization method.
