Abstract

In this paper, an Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) data model extension is proposed for representing the maintenance management of bridge structures. A generic process model is firstly investigated for representing the activities existing in the bridge maintenance process. Then, IFC data model extension is developed according to the information items identified. Finally, a conceptual framework is proposed for the cooperative management of bridge maintenance. The proposed IFC extension and cooperative management framework model support the development of computer applications for different purposes in bridge maintenance management; it enhances the interoperability and consistency between these computer applications. Furthermore, the data model can be mapped to those data models representing design and construction information, ultimately moving towards integrated life-cycle management of bridge structures.
