Dirac quantization of solitons

Abstract

The local U(1)YSU(2)V version of the Skyrme model with minimal breaking is quantized using Diracs method. After removing the spurious spin-isospin zero modes from the meson spectrum, a pertinent meson-nucleon Hamiltonian is constructed. In the strong -coupling limit the semiclassical results for the nucleon and isobar are recovered. The nonperturbative mesonic content of the nucleon is discussed. The concept of vector dominance is used to justify the local vector approach.
