Abstract
Large complex buildings such as department stores and skyscrapers are frequently damaged by fire. Such disasters in large buildings cause not only economic losses but also result in casualties. One of the main reasons for these damages is the fact that the structure of large buildings is too complex for rescuers to speedily locate victims or for victims to find evacuation routes. In addition, finding a suitable point at which to start extinguishing the fire is difficult. To solve this problem, we have developed a disaster-preparedness smart building system using Internet of Things devices with various sensors that help to detect fires, rescue victims and escape from fires. The proposed system provides timely and differentiated services to users, whom it categorizes into building administrators, victims and rescuers.
