Abstract

In this paper, dual polarization phased array antenna for 5G metal-rimmed mobile phone is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of two 1 × 8 arrays where the upper eight elements and the lower eight elements have different linear polarization. To arrange many elements in the metal rim of the mobile phone, the L-shaped slot antenna is chosen which has less size than the conventional inclined slot antenna. The resonance frequency is 28GHz (5G mm-wave band) and the mutual coupling between the antenna elements is less than 19.7dB. The proposed phased array antenna shows wide beam steering range sufficient for 5G mobile communication.
