Abstract

In this study, it was tried to make TWIP steels with lean Mn, that is, 18Mn TWIP (Fe-18Mn-1.5Al-0.6C) steel with average grain size of 5um and 12Mn TWIP (Fe-12Mn-2Si-0.9C) steel with average grain size of 13um. Tensile properties of the lean Mn TWIP steels were determined at different strain rate range of 10-4s-1 ≤ ε ≤ 10-1s-1 in order to investigate the correlation between twinning behavior and stress at various strain rates. Stress directly related with the volume fraction of twinned grain at quasi-static strain rate. The main factor in high strain hardening of TWIP steel is the role of twins.
