Abstract

A novel type of double clad fiber laser cavity structure with multi-mode active core doped with Nd was proposed. The single mode output from a Fabry-Perot laser cavity was obtained by tapering the fiber adiabatically. The advantages of proposed structure include capability of splicing with conventional single mode fiber (SMF) and enhancement of pump power butt-coupling efficiency due to the large core. The results showed an output power of 820 mW was achieved for the coupled pump power of 5.8 Watt.
