High-pressure, low-temperature, demountable, compact, and simple seal

Abstract

A new seal using a circular ring of D-shaped cross section wrapped with Teflon tape is described. This demountable and space-saving seal works with little initial tightening even for large bore cylinders. No prepressurization is required. The seal works at least from 10-5 mm Hg vacuum to 2 kbar and at temperatures from 4 to 300 K.
