Linear optical modulation in a serially cascaded electroabsorption modulator

Abstract

An all-optical linearization scheme was proposed for a serially cascaded electroabsorption modulator (EAM). Different derivative signs of the transfer function of the EAM were employed for linearization. The scheme was implemented by dividing a EAM into two sections in the device fabrication process. The nonlinear product generated by the first EAM was compensated by the direct current bias voltage control and variable length of the second EAM.
