Abstract
We propose a new electroabsorption modulator (EAM) structure where the linearity is improved by means of appropriately changing the absorption profile along the device length. As a practical implementation, a selective-area-grown MQW-EAM was investigated. Compared with a conventional EAM, the linearity was improved by 3 dB reduction in IMD2 and 5 dB reduction in IMD3.
