Abstract
Microstructural evolution during the hot-pressing of TiH2 and TiC powder mixtures was investigated. It was observed that TiH2 was completely transformed to Ti and that carbon atoms diffused from TiC particles into the matrix during the process. It is suggested that this was responsible for the formation of α-Ti in the matrix in preference to the α′-Ti.
