Abstract

Plant cells transmit developmental signals and distribute nutrients via dynamic intercellular channels termed plasmodesmata (PD). Multidisciplinary inquiries have provided evidence that plasmodesmatal regulation is critical to fundamental plant functions, such as development, host-pathogen interactions, and systemic RNA silencing. This review focuses on macromolecules that transport cell-to-cell through PD and describes their implications on plant development.
