Abstract
The mode-dependent loss or mode-filtering effect in hard-polymer cladding fiber (HPCF) was investigated. Bandwidth improvement of a HPCF in a longer link due to extinction of higher order modes was observed. The impulse response of a multimode fiber under equilibrium mode distribution (EMD) shows power distribution of modes in time domain. It is observed that the mode-dependent loss due to higher attenuation coefficient of the cladding extinguishes higher order modes.
