Abstract

Recently, there have been several researches on the design of antennas for small-size mobile hand-set as mobile communication services grow rapidly. Room for an antenna is smaller as the size of a handset is smaller. Moreover, many application systems are integrated in limited volume. An internal antenna for a mobile hand-set should be a very-low profile and operated in multi-band [1]-[3]. In this paper, a multi-band antenna with coupling structure for a mobile handset is proposed. The proposed antenna occupies small volume of 0.85cm 3 (=40mm×3mm×7mm) although the antenna operates in tri-band. Dielectric substance which has relative permittivity (εr) of 3 is used to support metal structures. The proposed antenna is easy to be fabricated and suitable for mass production process with low profile and multi-band operation.
