Nano to macro-scale tribological issues in industrial technology

Abstract

Tribological issues in industrial technology were studied through interaction with the industry and literature survey of publications, which included researchers from the industry. Tribology has played a key role in the development of critical industrial technologies in the past and will continue to do so in the future. The industry is in need for better standardization methods for quality management of products that are subject to failures due to tribological interactions. Such standards will aid in designing products with superior life. Tribology has emerged as an important discipline in technologies related to energy and environmental applications. To this end, tribologists need to be at the forefront of developing new technologies for preservation of clean environment and energy efficient machines, This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 2009 World Tribology Congress (Kyoto, Japan 9/6-11/2009).
