Abstract
A novel linearization method is proposed to increase the dynamic range of an electro-absorption modulator in suboctave bandwidth operation by exploiting the fact that the phase of third-order intermodulation distortion varies with the dc bias voltage. A reduction of 14 dB in IMD3 and a subsequent increase of the linear dynamic range were experimentally obtained.
