Optical tweezing of rod-like particles and hollow spheres in an interference pattern

Abstract

The alignment and simultaneous manipulation in 2-dimensions of both hollow spheres and rod-like particles using interference fringes were described. A set of parallel fringes formed the pattern which could be scanned across the area of the combined spot or moved as a whole around the sample cell. The trapping of hollow sphere in dark fringes of more readily produced interference pattern was also demonstrated. The rod-like particles were aligned and tweezed successfully by using interferometric tweezers.
