Performance comparison between two types of double skin envelopes in winter

Abstract

This study examines the performance of double skin envelops to utilize natural ventilation and reduce the heating load in office buildings. Field measurement was conducted in a three-floor building for two types of double skin envelopes. Type A was separated by the floor and type B was connected through three floors. The results showed that both types could provide sufficient flow rate to the indoor space. However, only type B could be utilized for natural ventilation on a clear sky day by preheating the air in the cavity.
