Abstract

The analysis and measurement on the residual stress in various types of optical fiber preforms to investigate stress variation for dopant type, their distribution in the cross and post mechanical processes was reported. Several preforms were fabricated including Ge, P and Al-doped core with a matched cladding step index structure. The stress variation induced by the difference of compositions in the core was studied. It was found that the stress of various types of optical fibers had different values as their dopants distribution and thermally induced stress for different dopants, Ge, P and Al was affected by the thermal expansion of dopants.
