QR codes are widely used in various services provided by agencies such as banks, credit card companies, and airlines. Among these, QR code based data management for the medical data of hospital patients is a representative area of QR code applications. As medical data usually contain sensitive patient information, preventing their leakage is a serious concern. Therefore, in this study, we present a method for the secure management of patient medical data by leveraging QR code and ciphertext-policy attribute-based encryption (CP-ABE). Especially, the proposed method can be used to securely store sensitive patient medical data in a QR code, which allows access only to authorized persons.
