Abstract
Modification of the Si phase is typically carried out to enhance the mechanical properties of aluminum alloys. Herein, ZnO nanoparticles were added to an Al-20Si hypereutectic alloy to control the Si phase. Simultaneous modification of the primary and eutectic Si phases of Al-Si hypereutectic alloy improves the fracture toughness as well as mechanical properties at various temperatures.
