Thermal stress analysis of an infinite plate containing a rigid inclusion of arbitrary shape

Abstract

For the case of an infinite plate having a rigid inclusion of arbitrary shape in a two-dimensional elastic body under uniform heat flow, general complex potentials are determined. The rigid inclusions whose surfaces are insulated or fixed at zero temperature are considered. The general thermal stress intensity factors (TSIFs) for the cusp-type inclusion of arbitrary shape are obtained. The TSIFs for the cusps in the particular shapes are derived from the general solution of TSIFs and shown to be identical to previous results.
