Abstract

Wide viewing angle characteristics of negative dielectric anisotropy nematic liquid crystal (NLC) using the vertical-alignment (VA)-1/6 π cell and VA-1/4 π cell on a homeotropic rubbed polyimide (PI) surface were investigated. Good voltage-transmittance (V-T) characteristics using the VA-1/6 π cell and the VA-1/4 π cell without negative compensation films were obtained, The iso-viewing angle characteristics using the VA-1/6 π cell and the VA-1/4 π cell without a negative compensation film can be achieved.
