Abstract
We have proposed a novel all-optical linear EA optical modulator by employing a dual EA modulator scheme. We compared the single EAM with the proposed dual EAM scheme. Using the dual EAM scheme, the nonlinear products produced by the nonlinear transfer curve of the main modulator can be reduced by as much as 20 dB and a low operation voltage obtained. Through the suppression of the second and third order intermodulation products, the following enhancement of the broadband SFDR of ∼20 dB was achieved and the increase of sub-octave SFDR of ∼30 dB was investigated.
